GETTIN' GROWN
(Aaron Greer, 2004, USA, Beta SP, 75 min.) [Aaron Greer's biography]
FILMMAKER AARON GREER SCHEDULED TO ATTEND APRIL 14 SCREENING!
A dramatic feature about one day in the life of a young African American. Twelve year old Eric feels ready for independence, and his multi-generational family needs him to take on new responsibilities. So when his mother sends him on an errand, she maps out a route to keep him "out of trouble". Every step of the way tests the boy's resolve and maturity, and Eric soon strays off his mother's strict course. In finding his own path, Eric learns that freedom brings unforeseeable challenges, tough choices, and its own rewards. Gettin' Grown is to be celebrated as a community-made (Milwaukee) independent film production with a realistic portrayal of the everyday ethical issues facing kids growing up in urban neighborhoods.
