DIRECTOR: Mark Milgard CAST: Vincent Kartheiser, Taryn Manning, Arliss Howard, Mare Winningham
Set against the almost surreally beautiful wheat fields of Eastern Washington, director Mark Milgard’s award-winning feature debut is a subtle and powerful tale of young love tested by the shifting seasons of life. In a small town of rolling fields and endless skies, isolated 16 year old Mason lives in a world where families exist in fragmented silence and love seems to have gone missing. Then Mason meets Danny, a sensitive and troubled girl, and their tender bond is soon tested after a fatal accident and a series of complications takes Mason away for something he didn't do. Gifted cinematographer-of-the-moment Tim Orr (George Washington) frames our protagonists against the immensity of the western landscape in a style reminiscent of Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven, while director Milgard infuses the narrative with a poetic realism that builds to an overwhelming emotional climax. Mark Milgard started his career in the record industry, co-founding the seminal Lakeshore Records division of Lakeshore Entertainment, which subsequently released soundtracks for City of God, The Human Stain and more. Dandelion is his feature debut.
