Every winter, Britta, her Husband Salif and their daughter Kaddi make a pilgrimage to the family court, where sacrificial ceremonies at the Crocodile Lake are seen by the Elders as an integral part of their life. "The crocodiles, they are our ancestors", the elders say. The former life of kings has given way to more pragmatic obligations and, for this nuclear family from Cologne, the clash between strange and familiar each trip means more complications and impediments. Ultimately a tale of a modern family trying to navigate an ancient world, a European world where seeing means recognition and understanding automatically passes for knowledge. In Africa, that is a mistake. "A person alone cannot see far", says the village. AHSBritta Wandaogo was born in 1965 in Unna, Germany. She studied communication design and photojournalism at the University of Wuppertal from 1990 till 1995. In 1998 she graduated in documentary films at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
