Kid is a teen-aged boy from Cornwall who escapes his prison-like orphanage to follow his hero, the pirate Black Mor. Armed with a treasure map and a head full of dreams, Kid assembles a motley crew to commandeer a ship and pursue the legend’s quest on the high seas. In the end, Kid’s treasure is true love—a surprise that’s more worthy than gold. Set in1803, Black Mor’s Island is a salty, coming of age pirate adventure with a sweet young romance at its core. The richly animated story from pre-eminent French director Laguionie has been compared to Totoro meets Tin Tin, and is reminiscent of the recent Triplets of Belleville. JEAN-FRANÇOIS LAGUIONIE (b. 1939) made short animated films for fifteen years and directed his first animation feature in 1979. He is founder of the independent animation studio in France, La Fabrique.Preceded by the short: CIRCUIT MARINE France/Canada / Isabelle FavezA comic animated piece about a pirate and his pets, produced by Jean-François Laguionie.
