Recommended for Age 11+A personal, dramatic feature about one day in the life of a young boy. Twelve-year old Eric’s mother needs him to fill his grandmother’s prescription, and she maps out his route across town to help keep him out of trouble. But Eric soon strays off his mother’s strict course and bumps into tough choices. Whether it’s deciding how long to play basketball or figuring whether or not he can trust his own uncle, Eric has to find his own way. Drawing upon his personal experiences and inspired by Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami’s WHERE IS THE FRIEND’S HOME, Greer is a gifted, conscious storyteller. GETTIN’ GROWN is a deceptively simple everyday journey, with complex characters, issues, and moments all kids living in American urban neighborhoods will relate to. AARON GREER is a professor in the Department of Telecommunication and Film at the University of Alabama. A native of Milwaukee , Greer returned home to direct his first feature length film. Greer's work concerns depicting the lives of African-Americans, especially children, in a more authentic way.
