CAST: President Alberto Fujimori

In a challenging character study, emerging documentarian, Ellen Perry, creates an engrossing profile of one of recent politics most controversial figures. Former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, now an exile in Japan, held a dictator-like grasp on his country for over a decade. Fighting an exhaustive war on the rampant terrorism that plagued Peru throughout the 1990s, Fujimori‚s popularity rose to astonishing heights. To root out the communist resistance known as the Shining Path, he held a self-coup and enacted absolute power. This coup managed helped the leader gain even more popularity. At the same time however, bitter divisions were forming in the country and allegations of corruption were spreading. Accused of political oppression, kidnapping, and even murder, Fujimori fled to Japan in 2000 and was placed on Interpol‚s Most Wanted List shortly thereafter. Through exclusive interview footage with the fugitive ex-president, Perry recounts his meteoric rise and fall. Refreshingly conveyed in an delicately objective way, judgments about this dialectical personality are left to the viewer alone. -BW Ellen Perry began her career in film attending USC's School of Cinema-Television. Her first feature documentary, Great Wall Across the Yangtze, was an investigation of China‚s Three Gorges Dam project and aired nationally on PBS.
