A powerful and melodramatic coming-of-age tale about a young Greek woman set in the ‘60s, Alameya opens with Isavella, a girl coddled and bathed in luxury by her overbearing father. When Isavella, her politico father, and others celebrate her 18th birthday, and during the festivities she meets Dimitrius, a transplant from a Greek community in Ethiopia. Dimitius and Isavella fall madly and completely in love, but their union stirs up considerable controversy within her father’s conservative company. Isavella feels constrained by her social status, and their love seems fated to be unrequited. But Dimitrius and Isavella’s story is far from over... Alameya emerges as a passionate and heartwrenching piece in the spirit of the great Greek melodramas. -ECElias Yannakakis launched into the medium from a multi-faceted perspective, working as an AD on productions, writing articles on film, and operating an art house theatre. This is his first feature.
