Director: Gustav Machaty

The Hedy Lamarr vehicle, directed by Gustav Machaty (1901-1963) has become scandalously famous for the Lamarr nude scenes (reputed to be the first in international cinema.) This restored (B&W) version from the Czech Film Archive owes its temporary, limited U.S. screening more to the rediscovery and appreciation of director Machaty and his early sound era, flowing, avantgarde style than to the young, ravishing Viennese actress (Hedy Kiessler) (1913-2000), who later became the celebrated Hollywood beauty.
